CONVENTION SUMMARY
Rules Committee Meets in Memphis
On Saturday January 12th the rules committee held a meeting to discuss the proposed rules changes. The one rule change, which received the most comments, pertained to the changes for Walnut lumber. The majority of the meeting was devoted to this change. As you may be aware by a majority vote, the Hardwood Distribution Association endorsed this rule change. Mr. Jim Price, our president, spoke of our support for this rule change at this meeting.
You have already received or will soon be receiving ballots from the NHLA asking you to vote on this very important rule change. I urge everyone to study this and the other rule changes and be sure to return your ballots when you receive them. It is very important that we, as members of the association, let our voices be heard. If we do not vote, we will end up similar to the Democrats in Florida.
In our meeting it was decided that the Walnut rule change would result in a better grade of Walnut and although it might command a higher price, it would give our customers a better package of lumber to work with. The other rule changes appear to be minor and not in any way controversial.
