HDA Convention 2002 It's convention time again and the HDA executive committee encourages all members to attend this year's gathering in Chicago on September 12-14. We are going back to the regular convention format with one special addition. The convention will begin on Thursday, September 12 with the board meeting at 1:00pm followed by the planning committee meeting at 4:00pm. New this year, the HDA will offer a hospitality suite, open from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Thursday. This will be a great opportunity for members to meet one another and provide a retreat from the convention floor. The suite will include a fully stocked bar and appetizers. Members will be on their own for dinner, which will be a great opportunity to enjoy one of Chicago's fine restaurants, stroll down Michigan Avenue, take a horse-drawn carriage ride around downtown, or visit the waterfront. On Friday, September 13, the day will begin with coffee and danish starting at 8:30am followed by the general meeting at 9:15am. Due to the events of last September and rescheduling of the meeting to Memphis, last year's attendance was not what we had hoped. Therefore, for those of you that missed it, we will be reviewing business discussed at last year's meeting. Afterwards, we will be taking two yard tours so the meeting will be short. Buses will leave at 11:30am to tour the Rayner & Rinn-Scott and Heidler facilities. Box lunches will be provided at one of the yards and we will return to the hotel by 4:00pm. Upon our return, members can meet again in the hospitality suite until 6:30pm. Friday evening's activities include a dinner cruise on Lake Michigan which will give members and their spouses a chance to mingle and enjoy the sights of Chicago's fabulous skyline and waterfront. Members will be greeted aboard the ship with cocktails followed by a three-course dinner. The ship offers an open deck for enjoying cocktails and conversation as well as an enclosed cabin for dining. Those of you interested in viewing the ship can log onto www.odysseycruises.com and click on the picture of the "Chicago" ship. We look forward to seeing everyone in Chicago. It should be a great convention. Chip Spellman
